Give the Gift - Best Buddies CitizensBest Buddies Citizens pairs people with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one friendships with other individuals in the corporate and civic communities. Friends and family are the foundation that help each of us become successful. Without love, support, and friends, our lives would be empty - a life people with intellectual disabilities have been forced to live throughout history. Volunteers are changing this by sharing their time with a new friend. Go out to dinner, see a movie, or have some friends over. By doing this only two times a month, you can have a positive relationship with a person with an intellectual disability. Contact your local Citizens Program Manager to find out about this exciting opportunity.

Best Buddies Middle SchoolsIn today's middle schools, students with intellectual disabilities often learn in the same building and walk the same hallways as their non-disabled peers, but they are left out of social activities. Best Buddies Middle Schools is our newest program. It is designed to improve the school environment by promoting friendships between students with developmental disabilities (Buddies) and students without disabilities (Peer Buddies). Students involved with Best Buddies Middle Schools are part of a growing movement of volunteers with and without disabilities, dedicated to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to have a friend. Socialization is one of the simplest, but most often underestimated, solutions to the pattern of exclusion people with developmental disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, have faced for decades.
Best Buddies High SchoolsBest Buddies High Schools pairs people with intellectual disabilities in one-to-one friendships with high school students. In the past, individuals with intellectual disabilities have not had the opportunity to have friends outside of their own special education classroom. By becoming a High School Peer Buddy, volunteers offer a Buddy the chance to explore a new way of life and feel included in the high school environment. The mission of Best Buddies High Schools is to provide an opportunity for high school students to be matched in a one-to-one friendship with individuals who have intellectual disabilities. Social experiences and relationships are a part of life; unfortunately, individuals with intellectual disabilities have historically been excluded from many of the social opportunities that most people enjoy. By becoming a high school peer buddy, you will not only befriend someone with an intellectual disability, but you will also learn about yourself in the process.

To date, Best Buddies Jobs has found employment for over 200 individuals in the Miami, Boston and Los Angeles area. We pride ourselves on developing jobs in professional environments. Our employers range from some of the top law firms and talent agencies to well-known retail businesses and luxury hotels.

Red Carpet Dance Party A Smash HitNearly 80 students, ranging from middle school to college-aged, turned out for the Red Carpet Dance Party at Northampton High School, which had its "red carpet" (a plastic one), a VIP entrance open to everyone and a paparazzo - actually a student at the Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls - who roamed the cafeteria snapping shots of that night's celebrities.
It takes a friendLUNENBURG- Most adults have to think about being politically correct. These kids just are. The Lunenburg High School Best Buddies program has been around for four years, matching high school students with disabilities with non-disabled peers. Last week the group spent two hours at an in-house field trip, shooting hoops in the gym, posing for their yearbook pictures, eating lunch provided by the Leominster Olive Garden, talking and laughing.
